Bet on the fact that someone will leave Giza amazed and you’ll surely win. The Great Pyramid of Cheops is at least an amazing construction that can make anyone stand in awe in front of its 137 meters of height and over 2 million blocks.
Next to it stands the other two smaller pyramids, the one of Khafre and the pyramid of Menkaure. Pyramids are open for the public so that the visitor can walk their halls and passageways which is a very interesting and educational experience. Another attraction of the Giza Necropolis is the Great Sphinx, the oldest known monumental sculpture, and a very mysterious one for sure, as no one has ever explained basic facts about it as when it was built and by whom as well as who its face was built after. Visitors can also pay a visit to the Solar Barque Museum, which is located right next to the Great Pyramid. The museum is home to the enormous solar boat the pharaoh used to travel with the sun across the sky.
An exciting thing about the Giza plateau is the fact that tourists can use camels or horses as means of transportation towards it through the hot desert. In the evening the Pyramids sound and light show is a recommended evening activity, where tourists learn about the history of the Giza plateau, narrated by the voice of the Sphinx which is accompanied by the use of lasers.
Visitors can choose to stay at whether Giza or Cairo as the distance between them is very small nowadays. Giza is a quieter place than the capital, with much less traffic and noise but Cairo offers a wider selection of hotels and easier access to public transportation.
Available Ways of Transportation
The city is very close to Cairo where the Cairo International Airport is, but people can travel from Cairo to Giza mostly by road, with the use of taxis or bus networks. A metro network exists too, but for travelers who want to travel from Cairo directly to the Giza plateau is not suggested as the station is about 8 kilometers away.
