El Yunque National Forest is situated on the island of Puerto Rico. This national forest previously recognized as Luquillo National Forest and the Caribbean National Forest. The most common name of this forest is El Yunque, and it came from Spanish “El Yunque”- means “White Islands.” This is the only Tropical rain forest in the USA National Forest Systems.
The total yearly rainfall is up to 6m per annum, and this rainwater spread over the forest throughout the year.
The El Yunque is divided into four different forest vegetation areas. These are Tabonuco Forest, Palo Colorado Forest, Sierra Palm Forest, and Dwarf Forest. The total forest area is rich in diversified biodiversity and this is one of the best biodiversity hotspots in the world.
